2022 Art Contest Flyer

This year’s theme: “Healthy Lifestyles in Communities of Color”

In celebration of Minority Health Month, the Albany County Legislature’s Minority Health & Equity Task Force, in conjunction with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Capital Area and the United Way of the Greater Capital Region, is holding a community art contest that asks youth throughout Albany County to show what a healthy lifestyle in minority communities means to them, highlighting health issues and disparities common among communities of color (heart disease, diabetes, nutrition, etc.).

OFFICIAL RULES

  • Youth ages 6-18 years old (grades 1-12)
  • Must be a resident of Albany County
  • Art Category Theme “Healthy Lifestyles in Communities of Color.”
  • Art work can be a drawing, painting, watercolor, charcoal, pastels, etc.

Any violation of these rules may, at the Boys and Girls Club discretion, result in disqualification. All decisions regarding this program are final and binding in all aspects.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Only new pieces of artwork inspired by the theme may be submitted.
  • Each entry must be the original work of one youth only.
    • An adult may not alter the integrity of the youth’s work
    • The contest is designed to encourage and recognize each youth’s individual creativity
    • Help from an adult or collaboration with other youth is not allowed.
  • All artwork must include complete entries containing:
    • The name of the entrant,
    • Their age,
    • Their grade level,
    • Their school district,
    • The name of the entrant’s parent or guardian and their email address and telephone number.
    • An “Artist Statement” of no more than two sentences that communicates what inspired the work, how it relates to the theme “Healthy Lifestyles in Communities of Color” and the content of the work. If possible, please attach Artist’s Statement to the back of the entry.

Use of copyrighted material (images) or trademarks (company names, logos, brands, etc.) is prohibited. Plagiarized entries will be disqualified.

ENTRY SUBMISSIONS

  • Entries can be mailed to or dropped off at:
    • Boys and Girls Clubs of the Capital Area

      21 Delaware Avenue, Albany, NY 12210
  • Entry period begins April 11, 2022 at 9:00AM and ends April 25, 2022 at 9:00PM.

PRIZES

  • Three winners will be selected per category.
  • Categories will be separated by:
    • Elementary school age,
    • Middle school age, and
    • High school age students.
  • Winners’ artwork will be featured in the lobby of the Harold L. Joyce Albany County Office Building, on social media pages, and displayed on promotional material for the Albany County Legislature.

Additional Information 

  • Entries may be exhibited by the Albany County Legislature and the Boys and Girls Club.
  • Judges will review all entries and selected their top 9 (3 per age group).
  • No purchase or fees are necessary to participate.
