Job Summary
The Associate Vice President of Information Technology (AVP-IT) provides overall vision and leadership for the development and implementation of innovative college-wide information technology programs that support the college mission and strategic priorities. The AVP-IT will effectively manage college-wide information systems to support both centralized and distributed IT services that promote academic success, excellent service to students, and efficient administrative functions. Working in a collaborative environment, the AVP-IT will demonstrate a commitment to service excellence, innovation, student success, integrity, and diversity in the performance of job duties.

Essential Functions
30% – Strategy: Provides leadership to ensure that the technological services of the college meet the present and future needs of all students, faculty, and staff; works with members of the college executive team to identify current Information Technology needs and growth potential to support the campus in its student and business goals; builds and maintains transparent and collaborative relationships both internally and externally; participates and collaborates on district wide initiatives and committees

30% – Resources: Responsible for ensuring that the Information Technology, network infrastructure, and staffing supporting student, faculty, and staff needs, applying innovative solutions to meet the needs within a given budget

20% – Supervision/Development: Responsible for supervision of MCC IT professionals, ensuring efficient and effective service to the college community; establish standards for skill level and systemic training and certification to remain current; effectively manages employee relations

20% – Operations: Manage IT budget within limits and projection of future campus needs; directs data informed needs analysis, develops comprehensive operational and equipment plans; negotiates contracts, lease/purchase agreements, and various means of equipment acquisition; develops and monitors budgets that provide for efficient and cost-effective IT operations

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education or field related to the area of assignment and four (4) full-time equivalent years of progressively responsible management and/or leadership experience* in a field of assignment that includes two (2) years of supervisory experience.

OR Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education or field related to the area of assignment and six (6) full-time equivalent years of progressively responsible management and/or leadership experience* in a field of assignment that includes two (2) years of supervisory experience.

OR Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education or field related to the area of assignment and eight (8) full-time equivalent years of progressively responsible management and/or leadership experience* in a field of assignment that includes two (2) years of supervisory experience.

OR High School Diploma/GED and ten (10) full-time equivalent years of progressively responsible management and/or leadership experience* in a field of assignment that includes two (2) years of supervisory experience.

*Examples of academic support management/leadership experience includes: program management, project management, budget development and management related to programs or projects, staff supervision, policy development, administration, evaluation and compliance.

Desired Qualifications
A. Masters degree in an IT related field, such as Computer Science or Computer Systems

B. Six years of management experience focusing on IT operations

C. Experience procuring hardware and software and managing technology service providers

D. Experience developing and administering budgets

E. Experience with facilitating distance learning and supporting the integration of technology into an instructional environment

F. Demonstrated ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries with diverse groups of internal constituents and within a large, complex organization

G. Knowledge of security issues, crisis management and business continuity; and legal issues regarding technology

Special Working Conditions

  • Hours may be required beyond the 40 hour work week including evening and weekend hours
  • May be required to travel to other MCCCD locations
  • MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas
