The
Opportunity

The University’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) leads strategy and innovations that complement the mission, vision
and strategic imperatives of the university, setting the tone and direction for the institution’s technologies. Equally important is
providing stability and efficiency to our infrastructure and advancing systems, automation and the integration of technology. As a strategic
partner for the campus, the CIO will lead a forward thinking, enterprise-focused IT organization that champions diversity, equity and
inclusion.

Responsibilities

The CIO provides vision and leadership for the Information and Technology Solutions (ITS)
team to facilitate success for Mines students, faculty and staff

  • Align ITS strategic plan to facilitate Mines@150 outcomes
  • Oversee the development of the digital strategy for Mines that will bring value and directly support the university’s goals as well as
    making Mines a leading-edge digital campus
  • Develop and manage annual university-wide information systems and technology budget
  • Drive organizational innovation, seek opportunities to define competitive differentiation and adopt leading and innovative technologies
    to support and challenge Mines leadership and faculty to create an extraordinary student experience
  • Ensure equitable access to
    technology for faculty and students to facilitate teaching, learning, and research
  • Educate end users to optimize use of technology
    and identify opportunities for appropriate investment in IT resources and assess the risk associated with those investments
  • Oversee
    data integrity to ensure the security of all Mines digital assets by actively promoting a culture of compliance and information
    security
  • Build trusted relationships with other universities and the community to drive innovation and partnership

Key Responsibilities

Lead and Manage Strategic and Operational Goals

The CIO
will develop strategic and operational goals and will work with the appropriate team members to track and drive outcomes.  This includes the
ITS division’s strategic and operational plans as well as the intersection of the university strategic plan with the division.  The
incumbent will implement programs that meet organizational goals and objectives and will regularly and systematically evaluate the results
of overall operations and proactively create plans to ensure excellence.

The CIO works collaboratively with the Mines Community in
particular Academic Affairs; Research and Technology Transfer; Student Life; Finance, Administration and Operations; and other areas in
supporting their goals and initiatives as it relates to information, technology, innovation, process improvements and others as
appropriate.  The CIO builds and maintains effective relationships with Mines leadership, faculty, staff, students, external partners, and
others in order to achieve the goals and objectives of the ITS division in support of the university mission.

Leadership
Oversight

The CIO will build capacity to change and achieve greater effectiveness and compliance across ITS,
by developing, improving, and reinforcing strategies, structures, processes, and service.

The CIO oversees several functional areas
including High Performance and Research Computing, Infrastructure and Information Security, Enterprise Systems Architecture and Support,
Academic Technology, Institutional Research and Strategic Analytics, Project Governance and Organizational Change Management, User
Experience and Customer Support, and IT Vendor Management.

Operational Excellence

This position
will collaboratively lead problem-solving, teamwork, innovation and leadership to improve business and administrative operations within
ITS.  Specifically,

  • Implement strategies for operational excellence and development to meet divisional plans and goals within
    budgets and timelines
  • Lead the definition, design, and implementation of process improvement; ensuring integration and alignment
    vertically and horizontally across the university
  • Define improvement projects aligned with business strategies and priorities
  • Establish and maintain performance metrics to measure program success
  • Achieve efficiencies and effectiveness

Data Strategy

  • Guide the development of a comprehensive data strategy that encompasses data
    governance, business intelligence, and an analytics framework that informs University decision-making and management.
  • Partner with
    leadership to support information management and the enabling of practices to improve the management of student and administrative
    data.
  • Facilitate the adoption and deployment of tools to improve the use of data analytics in support of University
    decision-making.
  • Improve organizational readiness and data readiness to make data-driven decisions.
  • Develop and implement
    a comprehensive and proactive plan for collecting, analyzing, reporting, and disseminating data on students, services, and academic
    programming, including defining policies and procedures that ensure accurate and trustworthy data.
  • Ensure accurate and timely
    submission of key institutional, system, state, federal, and regional accreditation reports.

Minimum
Qualifications

  • MBA, M.S. in information technology or a MS related field 15+ years progressive leadership experience
    setting the vision and strategy for a complex department portfolio.
  • Previous experience with C-Level managing and leading
    operations
  • 10+ years’ experience in and leading information technology at a progressive organization
  • Previous experience
    creating Operational Excellence through various means
  • Excellent communication skills, both presentation and interpersonal
  • Effective analytical and strong critical thinking and planning skills
  • Collaborative – Builds meaningful relationships,
    recognizes and identifies strengths, and seeks consensus around mutual goals.
  • Creative and Curious – A systems-thinker and builder,
    who drives innovation in designing solutions and has skills in articulating these ideas and concepts.
  • Methodical – Strong
    analytical, systems, and problem-solving skills to evaluate performance, prepare reports, and recommend/implement solutions using
    independent judgment. Ability to move from concepts to action through strong program design and evaluation.
  • Reliable – Leadership
    skills that reflect and value a team approach, demonstrated integrity, effectiveness, efficiency, and the ability to deliver high quality
    service. Highly capable of handling multiple tasks, projects and timelines. Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Trusted – Ability to work with faculty, staff, student, partners, alumni and others of diverse backgrounds with a positive, optimistic,
    solutions-oriented attitude. Shares a deep respect for the Mines community, its stakeholders and the residents that we serve.
  • Driven – Passion for the work and an interest in continuous learning, innovation, and improvement

Preferred
Qualifications

  • Previous experience creating Operational Excellence through various means preferably use of Six Sigma
  • Previous experience leading Information Technology in Higher Education
  • Experience with enterprise-wide system implementation
    and integration
  • Proven track record of developing and retaining a high performing team in service to the organization
  • Ability to translate technical information to a variety of constituents with varying levels of expertise

Pay Range

$ $185,000 to $220,000

Mines takes into consideration a combination
of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in
the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new
employees.
