California State
University San Marcos

California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) seeks a strategic leader and strong communicator for the
role of Chief Information Officer (CIO). The CIO has primary responsibility for leading, managing, and directing all aspects of information
technology services, both in support of the academic mission of the University and as a means of enhancing the institution’s management and
delivery of services to all constituencies.

Since its founding in 1989 as the California State University’s 20th campus, CSUSM
has grown to serve over 16,000 students across its 43 undergraduate and 25 graduate programs. A comprehensive public university offering
diverse academic programs, the campus prides itself on exemplary teaching, innovative and experiential curricula, and the application of new
technologies to solve real problems. A national model for student access and success, 54% of CSUSM graduates are the first in their families
to earn a bachelor’s degree. Designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), the University is also home to the highest per capita
number of Native American students in the California State University system as well as the highest number per capita of military-affiliated
students. Located approximately eight miles east of the Pacific Ocean and 35 miles from downtown San Diego, CSUSM grounds its mission in the
public trust, alignment with regional needs, and sustained enrichment of the intellectual, civic, economic, and cultural life of the region
and state.

The CIO will have the opportunity to serve as an advocate and champion for all members of the campus community while
building on the University’s infrastructure of technology and support systems. The CIO will recommend, create, and implement long- and
short-term strategic plan goals and operational plans for Information Technology Services. As a member of the campus community, the CIO will
ensure a community focused strategy, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. The CIO will lead and be a strong advocate for a
unit of talented staff while facilitating an environment that motivates, empowers, and inspires commitment from employees.

The CIO
will focus Instructional and Information Technology Services (IITS) resources effectively in order to enhance teaching, learning, and
student outcomes, while serving as the key technical liaison in collaboration with the CSU Chancellor’s Office and other educational
institutions across the CSU and external to the CSU. This position requires a skilled, forward-thinking strategist with broad technology
knowledge, a record of collaborative leadership, and strong team management skills. A more detailed position profile will follow this
