Job Description
General Function
TSU Office of Technology Services is
seeking a driven individual capable of taking charge of a Cybersecurity program. The CISO will lead the reduction of risk through analysis
and implementation of security controls against various requirements. Background desired in cybersecurity engineering, incident response and
technical leadership. The CISO will report to Chief Information Officer and indirectly manage directors, managers and individual
contributors on numerous security projects. This role directly manages a single Cybersecurity Analyst.
Characteristic
Duties and Responsibilities
- Source, review and interpret external requirements for integration into a security
program - Review and revise TSU policy in consideration of all external and internal requirements,
- Coordinate response to
compliance efforts, regarding state audits and external requirements such as GLBA, PCI-DSS, FERPA. - Communicate across university
leadership in a detailed and sensitive manner. - Implement a risk-focused approach based on existing standards (e.g. NIST).
- Facilitate internal and external risk assessments using proven frameworks or methodologies.
- Lead and Conduct IR with a
cross-functional team composed of non-security IT teams and non-IT staff or academic units. - Interface with multiple external
entities during IR, including ISACs, FBI, vendors and TN state representatives. - Effectively communicate and guide directors,
managers and individual contributors in security efforts. - Effectively delegate security efforts across numerous teams, including
user services, applications, systems, networks and staff or faculty leadership. - Teach and present cybersecurity instruction to
direct and indirect teams. - Utilize a breadth of knowledge to guide teams on security control implementation
- Identity and
Access Management, Vulnerability Management, Systems Security, Network Security, Endpoint security, Email security and more. - Policy
and procedural documentation - Produce and maintain documentation related to security processes, controls and technology.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must have strong
communication skills and a command of English, able to speak and write with precision. - Must be ethical, trustworthy, honest,
reliable and culturally sensitive. - Provide recommendations and decisions that come from proven frameworks and research.
- Knowledge of IT and Security platforms such as Palo Alto firewalls, Sophos Intercept X, Microsoft O365, AD and Azure AD, Exchange,
KnowBe4, VMware, and Splunk.
Minimum Qualifications/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in
Information Security or IT field. - Ten or more years of experience working in information technology roles.
- Two or more
years of experience working in a cybersecurity leadership role. - Preferred experience in education or similar vertical.
