Position Summary

The Computer Support Technician is responsible for a wide range of activities related to
computer support, such as maintaining, analyzing, troubleshooting, and repairing hardware and software systems. This position is governed by
state and federal laws and institution policy

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Resolves
    hardware or software problems in response to user questions and requests for assistance by diagnosing the source of malfunctions,
    recommending corrective actions, and consulting with appropriate staff or vendors.
  • Installs, configures, upgrades, or replaces
    microcomputer hardware and software for users.
  • Evaluates and make recommendations for necessary adjustments to applications to
    satisfy user requirements. Provides recommendations on the purchase of user hardware and software.
  • Assists in planning,
    preparation, and conducting seminars on software, hardware, network, or other computer-related topics.
  • Performs other duties as
    assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the limitations and use of
    mainframe and microcomputer hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of current application software packages and programming
    concepts.
  • Ability to evaluate, diagnose, and rectify software and hardware problems.
  • Ability to analyze computer
    specifications and apply programming logic

Minimum Requirements

The formal education equivalent
of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related field.

OR

Completion of technical training in
computer science, information technology, or a related field acquired from a vocational, military, or industrial setting plus two years of
experience in computer support.

Preferred Qualifications

Individual must have experience in
troubleshooting, analyzing, and performing repairs to computers and peripheral equipment; must have experience in troubleshooting
printing/networking problems; must have experience assisting in the recommendation to personnel regarding purchases of hardware/software;
must have experience in assisting with the deployment, installation, and upgrading of hardware/software; must have experience in
troubleshooting basic network operating systems; must have experience in maintaining and updating service desk indicating the status of
repairs and accounting of time. The individual should have experience in current technology for computer, networking, and software systems;
must have good verbal and written communication skills. Experience working in a University environment/setting is preferred. MUST BE ABLE TO
WORK DIFFERENT SHIFTS.
