Budget Title: Instructional Support Technician (SL-3)

The Desktop Administrator will work as part of the
Information Technology team in the Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science. Duties will include the configuration and
deployment of physical and virtual computing environments and the management of hardware and software assets. This position provides
end-user support for the students, faculty, and staff of Watson College.

The individual in this position will be responsible for the
setup and maintenance of instructional and laboratory computing environments. The candidate should possess the skill set to resolve computer
and network issues, be able to assist faculty, staff, and students with computer-related problems, assist in the managing and tracking of
hardware and software inventories, assist with the configuration and management of virtual desktop systems.

Watson College offers a
diverse computing environment. This position requires the ability to remediate computer issues and upgrade operating systems and software.
The successful candidate will provide operational support and assist with the design, specification, and deployment of computer systems. The
Desktop Administrator will provide end-user support for a variety of applications including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Microsoft Active Directory Architecture and Group Policy
  • Google Suite
  • Google Drive File Stream
  • Microsoft
    Office Suite including Office 365
  • Network software client licensing integration
  • Microsoft One Drive
  • Zoom
    meetings

This position requires collaboration with the campus Information Technology group to coordinate overlapping services
and necessitates working collegially and professionally with all campus community members. Adherence to Binghamton University security
policies and procedures is required. The successful candidate will occasionally need to work outside of their regular working hours when
performing system maintenance that impacts the university’s daily operation and during emergencies involving campus or college systems.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field, with a minimum of 1-year work
    experience or internship in an IT support environment
  • Experience with Linux or Mac OS
  • Familiarity managing Windows
    server/desktop operating systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with VMware products
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot 
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse populations
  • Ability to lift at least
    30 lbs

Preferred:

  • Experience with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager
  • Experience working with VMware Horizon View
  • Familiarity with any of the engineering desktop applications used in the college,
    such as ANSYS, MATLAB, Creo, SolidWorks, Arena, AutoCAD, SAS, Python, R, RStudio, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
    applications
