Department Summary
Information Services (IS) is the central information technology unit at the
University of Oregon and provides wide-ranging services to campus. Information Services consists of four major functional areas: Customer
Experience, which serves as the key contact point for interactions with campus clients and customers; Applications & Middleware, which
manages and supports applications, integration services, identity management, and data management; Information Security, which helps protect
virtual or physical information; and Technology Infrastructure, which provides administration and support for the software, hardware, and
services needed to support the campus IT environment. Information Services also includes the Advanced Network Technology Center. IS works
closely with the Network for Education and Research in Oregon.

Position Summary
This position is hybrid eligible. Reporting to the Associate CIO for
Technology Infrastructure, the Director of Enterprise Systems provides leadership, technical direction, and day-to-day management for teams
that directly and indirectly support mission-critical university services including cloud, virtualization, storage, and backups. The
technologies and services provided are foundational for academic, research, and administrative activities.

This position will
establish and implement short- and long-term strategies, roadmaps, and objectives aligned with organizational and university goals. This
includes goals and objectives for the Enterprise Systems team and the Technology Infrastructure unit that support the University’s goals for
student success, administrative process improvement, and research and teaching.

In the process of leading complex projects, as
well as enhancing, developing, and delivering new efficient and effective enterprise operations and services, the Director of Enterprise
Systems will collaborate with major constituencies including faculty, staff, senior management, academic and non-academic administrators,
managers, supervisors, and community members. This position will research and recommend technology solutions in coordination with other
Information Services teams and campus technology partners.

The Director of Enterprise Systems will build effective relationships
with university stakeholders to understand needs and identify and implement solutions in support of our mission. This includes leading and
serving on committees and task forces when participation will enhance the development and meet the needs of the department and campus. It is
expected that this position will serve as a liaison to the appropriate regulatory agencies, vendors, and professional organizations.

This position will oversee the annual and multi-year planning and budget processes over areas managed. This position will work with
financial staff within the department as well as the Associate CIO for Technology Infrastructure to identify and prioritize expenditures as
well as look for new cost-effective services and strategies. It is expected that this position will ensure compliance with federal, state,
and university policies and regulations while maintaining appropriate internal control safeguards.

Essential Personnel
This
position may be required to provide essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather.

Minimum
Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Five years of experience managing enterprise systems in a complex
    environment.
  • Four years of management experience providing supervision, coaching, and mentoring to information technology
    professionals.
  • Experience managing technical teams, complex projects, and budgets.
  • Experience planning and/or managing the
    transition to hyperconverged infrastructure and/or cloud services/platforms (e.g., VMware, AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with
    information security standards (e.g., NIST), and rules and regulations related to information security and confidentiality (e.g., PCI,
    FERPA, etc.).

    coaching, staff development, conflict resolution, and facilitation.
  • Ability to successfully establish effective, collaborative
    relationships with senior leadership and a diverse team of colleagues, IT professionals, clients, partners, and customers.

    changing technical environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical
    concepts to audiences with a wide range of technical skills.
  • Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide range of
    vendors.
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree.
  • Experience working in Information Technology
    within higher education.
  • Experience developing and maintaining short-term and long-term plans and budgets for an IT area.
  • Experience working with IaaS/PaaS/SaaS and core cloud concepts, automation tools, containers; including methods to provision a scalable
    and secure infrastructure on-demand to both cloud and on-premises resources.
  • Experience with cost of service principles and
    for-fee/rate development.
  • Experience leading significant change/transformation initiatives.
  • Experience with ITIL or
    ITSM.
  • Experience managing and negotiating vendor contracts and agreements with end users, service providers, and regulatory
    agencies.
