South Dakota State University (SDSU) Division of Technology and Security is offering an exciting career opportunity as a Director of Systems Administration. We are looking for a creative and innovative professional to join us in managing our systems infrastructure. This is a 12-month, 100% time, benefit eligible position. This position is supervised by Assistant Vice President of Information Technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Systems Administration is responsible for systems administration, operations maintenance, and associated activities of platforms installed throughout the university. This position ensures the operation of the university meets defined service levels. The Director of Systems Administrator is responsible for applying security principles, practices, and procedures to maintain compliance with applicable security regulations. This position will be a hands-on Director and direct the work of the Systems Administration team to ensure proper delivery, maintenance, and monitoring of all IT systems and services. The Director of Systems Administration will operate complex enterprise areas within the University’s network-based systems and applications such as: email, storage, backup, database, web, virtual, infrastructure hardware and specialized application server systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or a closely related field completed by first day of employment;
  • Experience with Microsoft server operating systems 2016 and newer;
  • Experience with infrastructure services including administration of Active Directory architecture;
  • Experience with implementing and maintaining current server hardware;
  • Experience with virtualization and server-based computing platforms (VMware vSphere);
  • Experience with client/server applications (preferably including IIS, SQL Server, Exchange, and SharePoint);
  • Experience with enterprise storage technologies (preferably NetApp);
  • Experience planning and executing projects;
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences;
  • Valid driver’s license, or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire, and willingness to travel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • More than 5 years of demonstrated systems management including systems software and hardware operations experience;
  • Demonstrated leadership in developing or leading for 5 or more years;
  • Experience with ITSM systems;
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws;
  • Highly self-motivated and directed with precise attention to detail;
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities;
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

SALARY:

$72,168 base salary, based on experience, education, and equity.
