New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on October 26, 2021) follows:

Google app is the official search app by Google that takes your search experience to a whole new level. Using this app, you can search and browse things such as nearby places, live sports scores, videos, images, news, and much more.

It has a feature called Discover where you can get personalized updates on the topics of your interest. You can also access Google search directly from any browser, for that, you just need to search ‘’.

Previously, some Google Chrome users on Android and desktop reported that their Chrome search bar was full of irrelevant trending searches that couldn’t be turned off.

And now, the same issue has once again started to show up for Google app users. As per reports, those affected are unable to turn off trending searches from settings after the recent update.

Apparently, not even turning trending searches off keeps them from showing up in the Google app, which is pretty annoying.

Here are some reports for reference:

Disabling trending search in search settings doesn’t appear to do anything. Have tried and tried, and read advice on this forum to no avail. Trending searches just won’t go away. Very annoying to say the least. The problem only seems to occur when language is set to English. When setting to Maori, trending search disappears. Seemed to happen after some updates. (Source)

Agree with everyone. Same issue. Cannot get rid of trending searches even though my settings are set to that. Trending searches are irrelevant, annoying & frustrating. Get rid of this Google! (Source)

After getting frustrated with this annoying issue, the affected users then took to Google Search community forum seeking a solution.

While a product expert has since suggested steps to turn off trending searches in the Google app, the recommended troubleshooting doesn’t address the problem.

It seems that there is some internal software issue with the Google app which is likely happening after the recent update.

However, Google has not yet acknowledged the actual issue where trending searches are not disabling even when users have turned them off in settings.

If you are also facing the same problems on your Google app or browser while making a Google search, then you can try the given solution, if you haven’t yet. Here are the steps to do so.

Turn off trending searches from Google app:

– Open the Google app.

– At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial > Settings > General.

– Turn off Autocomplete with trending searches.

Turn off trending searches from mobile browser:

– On your Android phone or tablet, open a browser like Chrome or Firefox.

– Go to

– At the top left, tap Menu > Settings.

– Under “Autocomplete with trending searches,” select Do not show popular searches. (Source)

If the above-mentioned solution does not work, then you’ll have to wait for Google to fix it. We hope that this issue with trending searches on Google app and browsers gets sorted out soon.

That said, we will keep you updated on the further development of the story as and when anything new comes to our notice.
