KnowBe4 was founded in 2010 by Stu Sjouwerman to help employees learn about cybersecurity. At the time of it’s creation KnowBe4’s phishing template library and having Kevin Mitnick on board made it an industry leader, but the world has changed a LOT since 2010. When KnowBe4 was founded the vast majority of people still went into the office every day. Most business communication was done over email instead of Slack or Teams. Tools companies used were installed as software on a device instead of the cloud-based SaaS model that’s dominant today. Now remote/hybrid is the new normal way of working and off-premise security is more important than securing a job site. SaaS applications where you can log in from anywhere have increased flexibility and productivity, but also introduce new risks. There are hundreds of competing security awareness vendors looking to capitalize on the opportunities created by the increase in cyber threats, including Haekka! Haekka ships with several HRIS integrations built in including Gusto and Workday (with several others in the works). These integrations enable companies to automatically assign new employees training when they are added to the organization’s HRIS database. Both Haekka and KnowBe4 have training for various forms of regulatory compliance included in their libraries. Curated, Relevant Content Written for Modern Remote/Hybrid Work Haekka’s Security Awareness Training was written with the explicit purpose of securing remote/hybrid employees in a post-covid world. Haekka’s co-founders understood that cloud software is now where the majority of work is done and have tailored the content to focus on modern security. Haekka’s content library includes training on using Slack, Google Workspace, and several other SaaS apps in a secure and compliant manner. Haekka’s content library continues to grow, and every training in the catalog has been vetted for quality. KnowBe4’s content is outdated and was written when work was done differently. Although they boast one of the largest content libraries available, the vast majority of their content is fluff/spam. For example searching “passwords” returns 66 different courses, making choosing the right training a burdensome process. This is the one feature where Haekka is worse or better depending on your interpretation. Haekka does not offer phishing simulations and does not plan to in the near future. We believe that phishing simulations punish people for making mistakes and damage a culture of trust. People that receive punitive phishing emails from within their company may be less likely to report actual threats to management due to fear of retaliation. KnowBe4 is one of the industry-leading phishing simulation providers with an extremely large library of different email templates. If you want to emphasize “gotcha” emails instead of properly educating your employees then KnowBe4 might be the choice for you. Conclusion
