Project
Manager
The University of Tennessee at Martin’s Office of Information Technology is seeking to hire a Project
Manager.
This position works within Information Technology Services (ITS) to lead, support, and elicit success for a variety of
internal and external projects that affect all UTM members and the institution in general, employing standards set forth by the Project
Management Institute, the world’s leading not-for-profit professional membership association for the project, program and portfolio
management profession. This position maintains project portfolio management processes, tools, job aids, communications, and training
services.
Main responsibilities include defining, managing, tracking, and ensuring the progress of projects of all sizes and levels
of complexity, visibility, and scale; developing project portfolio management processes, tools, and job aids; developing and conducting
training for employees.
This position will have the latitude to make independent decisions throughout all phases of the projects it
manages. The Project Manager is responsible for ensuring that projects are delivered on-time, within scope and budget, and with high
customer satisfaction.
To achieve its goals, this position requires ongoing IT knowledge currency, detailed planning and coordination
skills, superior customer service and interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and high levels of
accountability and self-motivation. The ability to think critically and communicate at the strategic, tactical, and operational levels also
are necessary.
Lastly, this position handles other non-PMO duties related to project coordination and communications as needed to
fulfill the missions of the ITS organization.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:* Requires a bachelor’s degree in
information technology, information systems, project management, or related field; Six years’ experience in project management; or an
equivalent combination of education and experience. Substitution year for year experience for education

- Working knowledge of
the roles of the various groups that comprise an IT department (ex., networking, customer support, systems, etc.) AND how those groups
interrelate to complete technical work - Ongoing IT knowledge (i.e., willingness to keep learning about the latest technologies and
their applications to UTHSC and higher education in general) - Ability to work well with customers, team members, and external
entities with varying levels of technical and project management expertise - Ability to plan work and set priorities, both
independently and in conjunction with a supervisor — a high level of accountability - Ability to foster concepts of positive and
productive interpersonal relationships, including active listening, respect, and trust in support of effective working relationships among
staff - Very developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to empathize, motivate others, resolve conflict, build consensus,
negotiate for desired results, articulate complex ideas in a simple fashion, and facilitate the communication of others - Ability to
think critically and communicate at strategic, tactical, and operational levels
Preferred:
- An
in-depth knowledge of an enterprise PPM software application including all aspects of project management, reporting, import and export of
data, and effort tracking is preferred - A basic knowledge of IT strategic technology planning is preferred
- A basic
knowledge of IT technologies is preferred - The ability to build relationships at all levels of the University is preferred
- The ability to mentor others in project management related areas is preferred
- Knowledge of the content of the Project
Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) - Knowledge of Agile Project Management
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
certification, Scrum Master (CSM), or other PM-related certification issued by the Project Management Institute (PMI) or other
widely-recognized PM professional body.
