Job Summary:

The convergence of software, hardware, cybersecurity, and infrastructure in IT, Digital/Web, Engineering, and Operations is accelerating rapidly. In response, Wisconsin Public Media (WPM) is seeking a visionary IT leader to design and implement a cohesive strategy that aligns the technology needs of Wisconsin Public Radio and PBS Wisconsin.

The IT Director will report to the Executive Director of Wisconsin Public Media and oversee all IT operations, including five direct reports, participate as a member of the WPM leadership team, and coordinate division-wide strategy in all areas of IT. The strategy for our division includes alignment with our state agency partner, Educational Communications Board, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the technology initiatives of NPR and PBS.

Responsibilities:
Develops and directs the implementation of strategic plans for the division’s information technology (IT) function to ensure that resources are utilized to provide effective information technology services. Typically manages IT services through subordinate managers.

  • 20% Directs strategic information technology planning initiatives and establishes divisional objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, staffing resources, and alignment with the strategic plan
  • 5% Develops operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and divisional objectives
  • 10% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 5% Develops and audits the budget
  • 15% Serves as the divisional IT liaison representing the division’s interests to internal and external stakeholders
  • 20% Advises institutional or divisional leadership on information technology operations and business models
  • 5% May perform manager functions through subordinate managers
  • 10% Determines long-term division technology needs and develops overall strategy for technology needs and approach to integration ability, including systems development and hardware acquisition
  • 10% Serves as a leader to assure the integrity of organization data, proprietary information, and related intellectual property through information security and access management

Education:

Trade schools, technical degrees, and certifications are also acceptable.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Five years of professional, full-time experience in IT related position(s) leading teams, building positive, collaborative working relationships, and moving initiatives forward with diverse groups of stakeholders and partners.
* Minimum of two years experience supervising IT staff, with a demonstrated capacity to develop the talents and expertise of staff.
* Demonstrated ability to work cross-departmentally or across an institution with successful results.
* Demonstrated communication with directors, technologists, and stakeholders to achieve a successful result.
* Experience presenting technical content to non-technical and executive leadership.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Professional experience in the media industry.
* Experience within higher education or government.
* Experience managing complex technology decision making to align multiple and sometimes disparate individual or unit needs.
* Experience coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to execute organizational policies, procedures and best practices.

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $105,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.
