Job Description

This position is to be part-time, casual worker employed by Smith
College

The ITS Service Point Assistant provides technical services and support at the Central Service Point at Neilson
Library. The person in this role will have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide supportive guidance to student staff on
    duty. Guidance would regularly include ensuring operating procedures are followed, advising on loan equipment (media and computer
    equipment), and assisting with library printing and public computer checks and issues. Job performance should be a positive model to the
    students. 

  • Provide media support on the equipment loaned out to library patrons, in partnership with the IT manager, media
    producers and student staff on duty.

  • Assist with inventory of existing equipment and adding new equipment to
    circulation. 

  • Respond to support requests submitted by Smith community users via the Digital Support ticketing
    system. 

  • Collaborate with the CSP manager and the rest of the User Support team on projects as part of continual improvement
    of the IT support operations at the CSP. 

  • Work cooperatively with the library staff on duty at the CSP.

  • Be
    seen as a valuable IT liaison between the libraries and IT teams located in other offices across campus.  

Skills:

  •  Excellent computer and customer service skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong
    communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Demonstrated ability to partner with diverse teams throughout an organization
    and to work effectively with end users of varying technical knowledge to deliver solutions

  • Strong aptitude to learn new
    technologies quickly, including digital media equipment. 

  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting skills and to use good
    judgment when to escalate to other service teams, providing relevant data gathered.

  • Familiarity with service ticketing
    systems is a plus

effective partnerships and trust within ITS, across the College and (where relevant) with external partners.
