Job Description

This person serves as a member of the Help Desk team of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences IT unit. CALS IT provides technical support to college academic units, county extension offices and agricultural research and extension centers. This position supports desktop computers and various computer peripherals; provides guidance, training, and technical support to faculty, staff, and students in the use of hardware and software packages, and serves as the primary point of contact for IT-related issues.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent level of education and experience. The candidate must be able to work independently and effectively, with strong communication and organizational skills and the ability to interact comfortably and courteously with faculty, staff, and students. An in-depth knowledge of Windows and working knowledge of macOS and Linux. Demonstrated ability to configure, troubleshoot, and repair Microsoft, Apple, Adobe and Google software products. Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair computer hardware. Experience monitoring, identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving basic network failures. Must have desire and aptitude to acquire new skills as needed. Opportunities for professional development are available.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in higher education. Master’s degree or higher preferred. Work experience in Agriculture and Extension preferred. Successful past experience working with a diverse faculty and staff pool in an educational setting desired.
