A North Korean engineer in his 40s living in China is suspected of having developed smartphone apps in Japan under the name of an acquaintance, sources familiar with the Kanagawa Prefectural Police’s investigation said Wednesday.

The engineer is believed to have had the money earned from the apps sent to the account of a relative living in Tokyo via the acquaintance’s account, the sources said. The man was later able to withdraw the cash in China.
