Move that bus! Join the Interpretation & Transportation team in Yellowstone National Park!

Our Interpretive Guides take visitors on exciting tours over 142 miles of Yellowstone’s grand loop, with stops at each of the 6 villages and points of interest along the way. Our Transportation Department guides provide interpretive experiences to more than 65,000 visitors during the summer season in Yellowstone National Park. The Details

Position Type: Seasonal

Season Dates: April 2022-October 2022

Schedule: ~40+ hours – May include weekends, evenings and holidays

Location: Throughout Yellowstone National Park (Canyon, Gardiner, Grant, Madison, Mammoth, Old Faithful, Roosevelt, Lake)

Responsibilities:

Yellowstone Photo Tour Guides are responsible for leading guests on driving tours through Yellowstone while helping them compose quality photographs throughout the park.


Must have high-level knowledge of photography and different types of cameras including smart phones, tablets, point-and-shoot, SLR, and DSLR cameras as well as familiarity with different brands of equipment.


Must have knowledge of landscape and wildlife photography.


Must provide own photography equipment.

Photo Guides are responsible for:

  • Safe and proper operation of company equipment in all weather conditions.
  • Maintaining professionalism while working outdoors in extreme weather and during vehicle breakdowns.
  • Helping tour members compose quality photographs in Yellowstone.
  • Providing a knowledgeable, interpretive commentary of Park features and history.
  • Developing and maintaining a thorough understanding of the natural, cultural, and geologic history of Yellowstone National Park.
  • Leading guided walks up to a mile or longer in length.
  • Keeping tours on a time schedule.
  • Assisting as needed with duty as Step-On Guide, driving of Step-On Tour Guides, bus washing, and additional guest services in other departments.

Qualifications:

  • 21 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess current 1st Aid/CPR certifications.
  • Good driving record.
  • Communicate effectively through speech and hearing.
  • Good reading and comprehension skills to research tour information.
  • Able to organize information about Yellowstone National Park into an interpretive thematic tour.
  • Judgment and leadership to keep your tour on schedule.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must meet all DOT physical requirements and pass a DOT physical exam.
  • Able to bend, twist, and lift up to 50 lbs. simultaneously and repeatedly.
  • Simultaneously steer a vehicle, shift its transmission, operate clutch, accelerator, and brake pedals, and give commentary while driving in heavy traffic.
  • Able to work outdoors in variable weather (including rain, sleet, snow, direct sunlight, high winds, and temperatures ranging from -60 to +100 degrees Fahrenheit).
