The Project Manager, Special Projects supports a technology vision
and provides the operational execution for the development and implementation of integrated enterprise-wide business technology solutions.
This position applies and promotes the Information Technology (IT) project management framework and processes for Client Services (CS);
provides routine reports on division and project progress, conducts needs analysis, and recommends both project and business process
improvements; facilitates interdepartmental tasks for related IT projects; and works with stakeholders in conjunction with various IT areas
to see tasks to completion.

Duties

  • Project Management – The Project Manager (PM) takes ownership of
    assigned projects and plays a proactive role towards the goal of project completion from start to finish. The PM will consult with fellow CS
    managers and team leads in their use of project planning, resource planning, risk planning, and communications planning in collaboration
    with their respective supervisors. The PM will provide qualitative and quantitative inputs on project status; staff participation; staff
    availability; use of tools, templates, and methods as related to IT’s portfolio of projects. The PM will interface between IT project
    managers and University stakeholders to facilitate the alignment of IT projects with the University’s strategic goals. The Project Manager
    plays a neutral role in deciding which projects are to be done but plays a leading role in providing project-related metrics to CS senior
    leadership.
  • Collaboration – The PM collaborates with the managers and staff of Client Services and our stakeholders by researching,
    recommending, and initiating project management standards and innovations in support of the teaching, learning, research, and administrative
    functions of the University. The PM applies a “best practices” framework for project managers to complete projects within the IT project
    portfolio selected by CS senior leadership. The PM routinely meets and communicates with colleagues and stakeholders to assess project
    status and promote a solutions-oriented mindset. Through the lifecycle of projects and tasks, the PM will address challenges, explore
    opportunities, and shepherd teams to operate and communicate effectively and efficiently.
  • Metrics – The PM will establish and
    maintain success metrics for each project. Duties in this area will include, but not be limited to: identifying existing (or creating new)
    metrics for all areas of CS; helping create systems or processes to simplify recording data; helping create systems or processes to simplify
    and speed up reporting of metrics/outcomes for each area of CS. The PM will create or assist others to create routine reports on CS project
    and team performance.
  • Special Projects – The PM will also undertake special projects as directed by the direct supervisor or CS
    senior leadership.
  • Training & Professional Development – The position will invest time to ensure his/her technical project
    management skills are current as well as continually seeking to improve his/her leadership, communication, and management skills.
  • Serves on various committees, internal and external to the information technology division. Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills and
Qualifications

Required: Requires Bachelor’s degree in related technical/business areas or equivalent work experience.
Minimum 1 year in Information Technology or equivalent business experience. Responsibilities including technical knowledge in one or more
areas of IT; small- and large-scale project management; budget management; presentations and training; organizational development and change
management. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with a
wide variety of internal and external resources. Strong decision-making skills and ability to work under pressure.

Preferred:
Master’s Degree, preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or related field. Recent experience in enterprise-wide
technical projects strongly desired. Higher Education experience desired; broad knowledge of one or more processes/services. Business
experience should include assignments in multiple business and technical processes and financial management. Leadership experience in
managing cross-functional teams and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, launch,
and deliver a portfolio of services that meet business demands on time and within budget
PMP certification. Strong technical skills in
Information Technology. In-depth knowledge of waterfall project management practices and the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with a
wide variety of internal and external resources. Excellent decision-making skills and ability to work under pressure. Strong leadership
skills with a proven track record of building and leading strong teams. Experience in following emerging trends in both technology and
project management practices. Expertise in the use of major project management and collaboration software, including MS Project, Asana, MS
Office, email, calendaring, and emerging collaboration tools (wikis, Google Apps, web conferencing, etc.)

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position with two (2) openings.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
