Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Facilities Management & Campus Services (FMCS) is searching for a Senior Manager of IT for FMCS! This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment.

The FMCS IT team supports the IT operations of all departments within Facilities Management and Campus Services. This includes the day-to-day oversight and support of approximately 40 IT systems and applications. The team is also involved in software selection, system architecture, server support, implementation planning, software development and vendor management. The Senior Manager of IT for FMCS role will manage a diverse application support team as well as software development and integration resources from central IT.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Serve as liaison between business units and technical teams to develop technical solutions to improve and enable efficient business processes
  • Hire direct report talent and provide coaching, performance assessment, goal planning, career planning, etc.
  • Lead the IT team that conceptualizes, architects, plans, documents, and evaluates software/system projects and strategies.
  • Provide leadership and management through resource allocation, project planning and effective quality assurance while managing technical risks
  • Manage large IT implementation and upgrade projects to ensure meeting critical success factors, required time constraints and limiting negative operational impact on business units during projects.
  • Work with team to find opportunities to improve business operations through technology
  • Work with senior leadership to set priorities and technical direction
  • Work in collaboration with leadership to oversee delivery of IT resources and services. May be accountable for financial, staff and IT capital resources
  • Work with central IT to manage software development and data integration resources to implement IT solutions
  • Manage 24-hour on-call rotation to respond to off-hour emergency situations
  • Ensure that documentation is maintained and updated
  • Oversee annual audit of all IT systems related to procurement cards to ensure PCI compliance

Job-Related Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT or related discipline
  • 5+ years of relevant IT management experience that includes successfully managing IT projects
  • Background in IT project management
  • Proven track record of mapping business process requirements to technical solutions
  • Proven experience with IT project management approaches
  • Proven experience managing an IT support team
  • Excellent interpersonal (written and oral) communication skills
  • Ability to interact with respective business unit leadership as well as technical teams
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven experience presenting project plans to IT team members and leadership levels
