Yellowstone National Park Lodges has a goal to improve recycling by 3% per year. We currently recycle or compost 60% of waste, which is more than double the national average. Last year, thanks to the efforts of recyclers and staff, we kept 3,391,920 pounds out of the landfill, instead sending them to become new products. These important positions allow Yellowstone employees to live their values by keeping materials out of landfills and helping sustain the planet for future generations. At this time, we are requiring proof of vaccination status or an approved medical or religious exemption in compliance with Presidential Executive Order 14042, which requires the Company to ensure that every employee who works in connection with a federal contract is fully vaccinated or has an approved medical or religious exemption. Proof of vaccination status must be provided prior to start date. Exemption requests must be submitted at least 4 weeks prior to start date to allow sufficient time for processing.


The Details

  • Position Type: Seasonal
  • Start Date: April 2022 – October 2022
  • Schedule: Varies – ~40+ hours per week, may include evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Location: Throughout park: (Canyon, Gardiner, Grant, Lake, Old Faithful)

Responsibilities:

Applicants for a Sustainability job will be considered for the following positions, based on skill level:


Risk and Sustainability Specialist

  • Must possess educational or vocational experience in the Sustainability, Environmental Health and Safety, and/or Risk Management fields.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; build productive relationships by positively interacting with coworkers and guests.
  • Implement ISO 14001 standards including postings, signage, and training.
  • Work with other departments to ensure employee orientations and trainings are conducted in accordance with policy. Coordinate inspection programs and conduct walkthrough and visual assessments of risk and sustainabiity audits.
  • Facilitate events (beautificiation days, educational actrivities and competitions). Promote employee incentive programs.
  • Assist recyclers when needed.

Recycling Technician

  • Responsible for assuring efficient collection of all recyclable materials for the assigned location; sorting recyclable materials from unrecyclable materials.
  • Ooperation of cardboard balers, glass crushers, and can crushers and safe operation of baling equipment.
  • Maintain recycling areas to sanitation and resource management standards.
  • Help educate staff on proper recycling procedures.
  • Work with the Sustainability Department to assess waste management opportunities, improve effectiveness of diversion programs and implement program changes as needed.

Lead Recycler (Positions Filled)

  • Provide training to and supervision of less experienced Location Recycling Technician(s).
  • Provide direct feedback to department managers on recycling processes and performance using existing company guidance and a collaborative, educational approach.
  • Assure efficient collection of all recyclable materials for the assigned location and sort recyclable materials from unrecyclable materials.
  • Responsible for the operation of cardboard balers, glass crushers, and can crushers and safe operation of baling equipment.
  • Help educate staff on proper recycling procedures.
  • Work with the Sustainability Department to assess waste management opportunities, improve effectiveness of diversion programs and implement program changes as needed.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Must be least 21 years of age and possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam.
  • DOT road test – required on location.

Preferred

  • Able to lift, push or pull bins with weights of 50-100 pounds on a daily basis
  • Stand and bend throughout an 8-hour shift
  • Knowledge of or interest in learning recyclable materials, processing methods and collection systems
