Summary Description

To provide technical oversight of critical technology services that serve students and employees; ensure functional, efficient and secure operation of the District’s servers, hardware, operating systems and networking software; perform specific application software development, system analysis and programming as needed; provide leadership in project management; and manage District staff and consultants as directed.

To foster a culture of collaboration, mutual respect, innovation, and continuous improvement throughout the District; lead by example; actively participate in and support District-wide participatory governance components and activities and other collaborative processes; encourage professional excellence among the staff and promote an organizational culture of customer service, innovation, and quality services.


Receives general direction from the Director of Information Technology – Infrastructure and Security.

Exercises direct supervision over assigned professional and technical staff; also coordinates contract vendors and provides technical direction to others outside the department serving on special project committees.

Education and Experience Guidelines

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.


A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in infrastructure, telecommunications, computer engineering, computer science, information technology or closely related field, or commensurate direct work experience in computer systems, operations and/or programming.


Four years of increasingly responsible experience in computer systems analysis, programming and operations support and one year of experience directly managing technical staff.


  • Industry certification in Microsoft products and operating systems.
  • A master’s degree in a related field or recent evidence of continuing education in area of assignment.
  • One year of systems administrator-level experience in a Unix/Linux operating system environment.
  • Experience with a multi-user operating system, demonstrated experience in management, operations, programming and end user support in a large-scale information systems environment.
  • Experience with enterprise systems, systems administrator-level experience in Microsoft Windows desktop and server operating systems environments, and systems administrator-level experience in virtualization and cloud technologies.

License or Certificate

A valid California driver’s license.

Work Environment

Typically, duties are performed in an office environment at a desk or computer workstation. Incumbents are subject to frequent contact in person and on the telephone with District or college administrative, management, supervisory or classified staff. Work requires travel to other offices or locations to attend meetings or conduct work.
