    REPORTS TO:                              Director – IT Operations

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Provides leadership, vision, and direction to the Information Technology (IT) IT Infrastructure Services unit, and works with the Director of IT Operations and others in IT leadership to develop overall IT strategy within the context of the College’s strategic plan.
    2. Organizes and supervises a staff of professional and unionized support personnel, and provides for their training, motivation, scheduling, and performance appraisal.
    3. Oversees the daily operations of server and network architectures to support the systems and services provided by the IT Department.
    4. Establishes practices and standards to ensure IT systems and applications provided to students, faculty, and staff result in an exceptional user experience, and uses appropriate tools and measurement methods to assess department performance and alignment with service level goals.
    5. Manages the monitoring of the College’s network and server infrastructure; reviews performance and resource utilization; and tunes systems to ensure maximum availability, security, and performance.
    6. Manages IT Infrastructure Services unit regarding hands-on network and systems administration work, including installation and configuration of network, server and storage hardware, Windows and Linux operating systems, and application level services such as web and database servers.
    7. Administers and supports core infrastructure technologies such as Microsoft Active Directory domains, virtualization hypervisors and management tools, Cisco routing and switching, and various server applications.
    8. Ensures the highest level of systems and infrastructure security by supporting the information security program components such as change management and vulnerability management procedures, participating in risk assessment and mitigation processes, and contributing ideas and expertise in strengthening the College information security program.
    9. Prepares written documentation for department processes and procedures, including system builds and configuration, and startup/shutdown procedures for all servers, appliances, and system/network applications.
    10. Mentors and cross-trains staff in the IT to ensure the continuity in managing all applications and services supported by the Department.
    11. Develops strong relationships at all levels of the organization and across academic and administrative departments to improve communication, trust, and understanding of the technology needs of the MC community.
    12. Manages relationships with vendors and service providers to ensure they cost-effectively meet the needs of the College.
    13. Participates in all operational aspects of leading the IT Infrastructure Services unit including, but not limited to, capacity planning and budgeting for equipment acquisition and refresh cycles, service management, change management, and maintenance of documentation and licensing.
    14. With a strong understanding of the business impact of security tools, technologies and policies, participates in the development and promotion of policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines relating to IT Infrastructure Services.
    15. Provides the most experienced tier of IT troubleshooting capability to address fully escalated requests from IT stakeholders.
    16. Performs other duties as assigned. 

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree 
    • Five years of experience in an IT environment
    • Supervisory experience
    • Strong knowledge of IT and IT security with demonstrated experience in such areas as authentication systems, network monitoring and auditing, system/network administration and troubleshooting, penetration testing, computer forensics, network security audits and documentation of processes and audit findings
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master’s degree
    • IT experience in higher education

    SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

    SCHEDULE:           Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.           

    RETIREMENT:        Pension Eligible

    Any Middlesex College employee hired after September 1, 2011 will have to meet the New Jersey residency law requirement.
