Gardner-Webb University seeks an innovative, strategic, and transparent information technology leader with a passion and enthusiasm for
student-centered education to serve as the Associate Vice President for Technology Services and Chief Information Officer.
Summary and Objective:
Reporting to the Vice President of Finance and Administration, the Associate Vice
President of Technology Services and Chief Information Officer (AVPTS-CIO) provides vision and leadership for technology services across all
divisions of the University.
The AVPTS-CIO is responsible for the management and security of the University’s academic,
administrative and integrated technological assets and infrastructure including its services, shared, and secured systems. These services
include the design, development and implementation of information systems, enterprise and end-user applications, security profile and
policies, and infrastructure of networks and systems.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic
leadership and planning in support of the technological infrastructure of the University and in support of the information technology needs
of academics, research, and administration. - Leadership and operational management of the Information Technology team.
- Enhancing and securing the Gardner-Webb University security profile. Responsible for the security of university systems, infrastructure,
and the integrity of institutional data. - Develop an enterprise resource plan and road map of current and future infrastructure and
applications. - Develop and sustain a University IT governance committee to prioritize IT projects, applications, infrastructure,
reduce departmental application sprawl, and budgeting of finite IT resources. - Resource optimization efforts for hardware and
enterprise applications. Purchasing for the University, leveraging the economies of scale. - Develop working relationship with
academic and administrative departments to understand and implement IT resources. Identify new opportunities for the application of
information technology across the University. - Information Technology policy review, modification, and development of new policies,
as necessary. - Develop, promote and oversee strategic vendor relationships between Technology Services and external entities and
partner organizations which includes maintaining and managing contracts with external vendors. - Perform duties and activities in
support of and pursuant to Gardner-Webb University’s strategic plan and growth. - Develop and sustain new sub-units of
Information Technology such as the Gardner-Webb IT Help Desk, IT Project Management, and IT Training Services.
Critical Competencies:
- Strong combination of skills in leadership, management, written and verbal
communications and presentation. - Willingness and desire to work in a collaborative environment of higher education.
- Ability to understand complex challenges and lead teams to apply appropriate technology solutions while engaging key stake holders.
- In-depth technical knowledge in information technology services including enterprise applications, system integration, cloud-based and
on-premises servers and storage solutions, database support, classroom and multi-media technologies, records management, ID card operations,
electronic commerce, student computer labs, telecommunications, and network infrastructure. - Ability to establish and maintain
cooperative working relationships with multiple constituencies with a high degree of professionalism. - Strong leadership and
management skills to lead, inspire, and guide the department in accordance with university goals, objectives, and strategic plans.
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a
business-related field from an accredited college or university is required. Preferred master’s degree in information technology or
business administration.
Experience:
A minimum of seven years of experience in a technology-related position,
including at least three years performing management responsibilities is required. Experience in a teaching or higher education environment
is preferred.
