Director Of Information Technology – College Of Nursing
The
University of Tennessee, Knoxville College of Nursing is accepting applications for the Director of Information Technology position. This
position leads the Information Technology (IT) department at the college. This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Finance,
Administration, and Operations. As part of the administrative leadership of the college, this position exists to champion appropriate
technology use and development by leading strategic planning initiatives and large-scale projects within the college and with our partners.
This position directs the day to day activities of the IT department resources including staff, equipment and requests and recommends
resources to support the IT department and the CON. In addition, this position develops and implement the data security plan and works
collaboratively with the University of Tennessee IT department to ensure best-practices in IT support and management.
Technology
Administration
- Directs and oversees the projects and personnel of the college’s Information Technology group

Requests and recommends resources for IT personnel, equipment, training, etc. and works in collaboration with the CON F&A office on
purchasing - Completes skill assessment of IT staff and creates appropriate training and development plans.
- Evaluates,
reports, and recommends technology-related issues to the Assistant Dean of FAO - Serves as a member of the college’s Leadership
Team. Represents the college at the University level on IT committees and at IT conferences. Documents procedures for self and other users,
including how to use technology, best practices, etc. and disseminates this knowledge to the college - Manages and allocates
procured technology assets within the college including personnel, computers, and other equipment resources - Supports college end
users with technology support
Technology and Strategic Planning
- Conducts needs assessments and other
surveys/audits to determine the college’s technology resource needs - Analyses and sets short term and long-term IT goals, policies
and procedures - Leads the College of Nursing’ Strategic Plan in the technology area
- Serves as chair of the Technology
sub-group for Strategic Planning and directs those initiatives - Advocates for technology needs for teaching, research and practice
within the college and at the University
Technology Consultation
- Researches and recommends
software/hardware for research, academic, nursing practice and administrative use at the college - Serves as subject matter expert
on technology for the college
Security Plan
- Develops and maintains the College of Nursing Security Plan
in compliance with UT IT policy and works with campus OIT to ensure the security plan meets all requirements and provides an annual report
to the ADFAO on the status of the Security Plan and requests assistance as needed
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Skills
including information technology support skills and teaching or training skills - Experience with hardware and software technology
usage, end user support - Experience with IT best practices in a higher education environment. Knowledge of industry standards and
trends - IT specific knowledge of higher education work environment
- Experience creating and maintaining IT strategic
planning. Experience in creating and maintaining a security plan - Experience in web creation and maintenance
- Skills
including excellent communication and leadership skills, professional writing skills, managerial and administrative skills - Time-management and prioritization skills
- Decision-making and strategic planning skills
- Ability to lead and direct
large projects and personnel - Ability to learn new software, hardware and non-traditional technology
- Ability to work
independently and in a team environment - Ability to research and recommend technologies for teaching, research, and service
- Ability to plan strategically for resource allocation and acquisition
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and
Abilities:
- Knowledge of online learning and medical/nursing simulation technologies
- ITIL Certification
Educational Requirement:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Master’s Degree preferred)
Experience Requirement:
- 4+ years experience working in higher education specific to IT
- 1+ years
management/supervisory experience
