My old Mac Air won’t get past the white progress bar. What do I do? | #macos | #macsecurity | #education | #technology | #infosec

@MrSnrub:-

I’m no Mac expert. But knowing something about Apple’s upgrade/update model, my guess is that Snow Leopard is past its EOL. (Released in 2009, support was terminated in 2014…..some 7 years or more ago). And that the current versions of MacOS will be insisting on newer, more modern hardware, like as not with some of Apple’s custom security chips present……which your machine probably doesn’t have. In other words, as far as MacOS is concerned, your machine is now no better than a doorstop.

The only way to get MacOS functional again will be to drop a couple of thousand dollars on a new one, because I doubt even the updater software will run on your hardware.

I could, of course, be wrong. I’m NOT a Mac user. Others may have more pertinent advice to impart.

Mike.
