Iphone is a cult. Tons of people just want an iphone, no matter if model from 2021 or 2018.

What are chances that someone in the end of 2021 would buy the S9+ brand new for example $450?

RealLifePhones, 31 minutes agoSamsung has 4 years and Google 5 years of timely updates. I’d prefer that over Fairphones… moreSamsung has 3 years of major updates and 1 extra security only. Google had just 3 years of major. 5 years was only announced with Pixel 6. The rest of the industry mostly gets you just 2 years, in most cases just 1 year and even that with sporadic monthly security updates that aren’t even released monthly. If it’s Android 10 with all the security fixes implemented till today, then it’s technically not an issue. Question is, is it really?

And it’s not like I can’t see the struggles they’ve been through (check the english wikipedia on fairphone for more) because there is just no driver support from qualcomm beyond 2 years (2021 chips onward 3 years) and as long as that doesn’t change there is no hope for timely longterm support we should start blaming qualcomm way more for that because it’s NOT the OEMs, it’s not Google it’s mostly QUALCOMMS FAULT! Without properly functioning drivers it’s extremely complicated to get a new firmware running stable and doing that for an entire line-up of phones is expensive as f*ck

Things move fast in the smartphone tech world.

The average user upgrades every 2-3yrs.

iOS or Android doesn’t matter, the statistics are same.

Unlike Apple, other do not make money out of old phones.

… moreWell to be fair there are only at most 4 iPhones released per year unlike other phones that release like 20+ phones. So it’s understandable that iPhones should have longer software support since they only need to develop for fewer models.

RealLifePhones, 1 hour agoGreat they got a 2019 OS running on that just 3 years late While one may mock them for that, the fact they even issued an update on 6 years old phone is commendable. Most big brand names drop support for their phones after just 2-3 years.

… moreIf they didn’t stop selling old phones, maybe they would still make money out of them. A lot of old phones still work perfectly with LineageOS. I have a Galaxy Note 4 of 2014, and it runs perfectly. It can be bought for 100$ and is far better than most other junk of new phones at this price. There are a lot of other high end phones cheap that runs perfectly.

Unlike Apple, other do not make money out of old phones.

At this point Samsung no longer makes S21 series, but surely phones like iphone 11 is still being made at Foxconn. This is why Apple has 5-6 years support.

Iphone 6 was still made in 2018, phone from 2014.

?

How long are they planning on supporting it or is this the last update?

r1254210

android 10 is from 2019 and this phone is from 2015 so the gap to this os is 4 years.

This makes all those companies sound like a joke when they say that their phones cannot be updated anymore just after a few OS versions because of hardware limitations

AviMan, 2 hours agoWhere is iOS?It’s an Android phone, and built for Android, it has nothing to do with Apple…

And no love for the Fairphone, would that be because it isn’t flagship material ?. Well, at least it can boast at being one of the longest supported phones… 🙂

What about the big named companies? What is their excuse? Little to no aftersales support, even if just for security updates, since they release a new one weekly?
